Welcome to the last Magic Monday of the month of February, and what a month it was.

My challenge of 52 books in 52 weeks challenge is way ahead of schedule, starting week number 37, I’m still working on book number 44, Asesino Real by legendary author Robin Hobb, currently on page 249 of 654 . The one short story a day challenge is enjoying a 51-day streak. I´m already on the tenth story of the collection Criaturas Fantásticas ,penned by the legendary Larry Niven.

Now let’s talk about MY NUMBERS, the current total is 43,147 of the 64,952 pages of this year’s goal, that’s a pretty decent 865 registered pages more than last update.Still focusing on the next step, 50,000 pages. The next 14 days are crucial to get back on track, and with 6,853 to reach the next milestone, my race against the clock just got more interesting.

The end of the year projection of total pages had a bit of a surge ,currently, is at 59,145 pages, 375 pages less than the last update. My reading schedule is now 24 days behind, this is a 2 day loss from my last update. I keep on sticking to my mantra, one step at a time, one page at a time.

I start week 37 with a deficit of 4,567 pages, and a total 5,813 pages to get back to balance, this week I had a surplus of 55 pages. The total for the month of February, which is 4,984 pages, is now 5,136 pages, representing almost a 103%, with just one to go, I’ll try to at least finish 500 pages over February’s projected total.

For the first 500,000 pages, I have only 106,276 pages left, and the new date of reaching that goal is October 10, 2025, that’s 6 days earlier than the last projection, my sights are still pointed at March 20, 2023 as the desired date to reach the first half of the challenge, that gap narrowed from 942 to 936 days behind schedule.

The second part of the journey, or the other 500,000 pages, my weekly pages needed are now 1,694 with a daily average of 242 pages, a 1 page a day drop from the last projection.

Now for the golden prize of 1,000,000 pages, to my delight, the projections puts it 7,530 days away, a 18 day gain from the last projection, making the end date is October 11, 2042, that’s 4,146 days after the original plan, 12 days less that the last projection. Although there´s always forward motion, the goal is always to gain at least a month of time with each week, hopefully, if this goal can be kept for the foreseeable future, the coveted end date of 2031, will be easily reach

To summary the numbers from my Journey Back.

  • Pages to reach 500,000: 106,276 pages
  • Days to reach 1,000,000: 7,530 days
  • Days behind schedule: 4,146 days

Now back to work on the 50,000-page milestone, and hitting my very neglected daily, weekly, and monthly goals.

Off to read.

Eventful day

I have only two days left in the month of February, and a lot to cover on my monthly goals.

The most tricky one is the almost 12 hours, of 56, left on the clock, 6 hours each is quite the challenge, but nothing I haven’t done before.

The page front is a bit less complicated, there’s 225 pages left, that for a two-day expanse is pretty standard for my reading rythm, still, I’m not taking any chances.

The other significant event for today is that this year of reading enters its final 100 days.

21,979 pages to reach my goal of 64,952.

Off to read.

Jump in early

With only 4 days left in February, and 866 pages in the pages quota, I decided to jump a bit earlier on my reading routine.

I have to read around 217 daily pages to fill the quota, and hopefully there will be some extra pages to finish with some positive numbers to chip away some of the surplus pages from previous months.

The other thing looming in the horizon is the deadline to reach 50,000 pages, which is March 14, with 17 days left and 7,718 pages to read, there’s a lot to get done.

With that in mind.

Preparing for Tolkien Reading Day

There’s only a month left for one of my favorite events of my reading year, Tolkien Reading day, which celebrates the legacy and impact of the Professor Tolkien’s writing.

It is celebrated on March 25, honoring the day that Frodo destroyed the Ring of Power on Mount Doom, thus, vanquishing Sauron for good.

This year I have three options for the occasion, Unfinished Tales of Númenor and Middle-Earth, The Book of Lost Tales Part One, and The Children of Húrin, the idea is to try and finish the book in one day, quite the gargantuan task.

In the upcoming days, I’ll decide which one to tackle.

For more information on the event, I recommend to visit the official website of The Tolkien Society, to find out the events they are planning.

That didn’t turn out as expected

My grandiose plan didn’t turn out quite as I expected. My total for yesterday was 247 pages, not quite the 580 to get my total left for the month of February under 1,000 pages.

Some positive news is that the short story collection, The Crow: Shattered Lives & Broken Dreams, is on my read pile. Today a new book takes its place, Criaturas Fantásticas, a compilation a stories by non other that Neil Gaiman himself, which includes a story penned by Neil.

For today’s reading, and the first tale of the book, Gahan Wilson’s story named only with a heartbeat line, really Prince like.

Hopefully, I’ll also start a new book today, with Nicholas Eames’ Rosa La Sanguinaria only having 43 pages left, the next book on the queue is Robin Hobb’s Royal Assassin, the second volume of the Farseer Trilogy,

Lots to achieve today.

What’s that? I can’t read more than 500 pages today?…hold my beer (walks out determined)

I have 1,580 pages left on my February quota, and a little voice in the back off my head said that it will be cool if by tomorrow morning that number magically turns from a 4-digit number to a 3-digit number.

That being said, today’s itinerary consist of a trek thru The Wyld, a dinner party with The Lightbringer, and hopefully a triumphant return to the Farseer Trilogy, with the second installment, Royal Assassin, written of course by the legendary Robin Hobb.

50,000-page watch (February 16, 2022)

As the clock ticks away, I find myself with only 26 days to get back on track with my reading goal for the year. Currently, my total is 41,539 pages, that means that I still have 8,641 in front off me to finish this leg of the journey.

The culprits for the 737 registered pages for this week of reading where Neil Gaiman’s amazing novel El océano al final del camino, and Mike Carey playing in the world created by Neil in the first volume of Lucifer’s solo series.

For this week’s reading, I´ll continue with Mike Carey’s run with Lucifer, start a new series science fiction series, The Wild Storm, by acclaimed author Warren Ellis, and close out Nicholas Eames’ Rosa La Sanguinaria, currently on page 273 of 533.

I’m aiming for a week over 1,200 registered page, with daily average needed of 330 pages, is the least I can do.

So excited that I can’t sleep

Right now it’s 12:47 a.m., and I’m to wired to sleep, no, unfortunately there’s no caffeine to blame, just my eagerness to reach my goals.

On top off posting about the progress toward my next milestone, 50,000 pages, I’ll be adding a daily rundown of my two magic numbers to reach what will determine the final outcome of this project.

The first magic number will change as I’ll get near to the goal for this year, once the next milestone is reached it will change to 60,000, and then to 65,000, which will give a total over my projections. Today’s magic number is 320 pages.

The second magic number is a little more static, being a goal to reach in the long term, and not a yearly projection that’s heavily influenced by how many I finished over or under the projections for each particular year. For today that magic number is 272 pages.

As I stated before, never have I back down from a challenge, whether it is reach or not, that’s a whole different story.

I have my work cut out for me, let’s work on getting those numbers down.
