The last breath before the plunge

With exactly one week to go in my year of reading, and 1,037 pages to get to the ultimate goal. I must remind myself to.

Take a deep breath.

Remain focus

And, most of all, DO NOT FUCK IT UP.

With this motivational speech, I’m bound to get pass the magic number. But you might ask, What are you reading to get pass this monumental milestone?

Well, let me show you.

I’m about 100 pages into the first story, chronologically speaking, of the now known as Star Wars Legends, in Dawn of the Jedi: Into the Void, we follow the steps of the ancient padawans in their quest to become adepts of the Force.

To help along and motivate this final week, I went out and got some pretty interesting graphic novels.

This just fits perfectly with the 14 hours, of the 62 left for the month of May. I’ll push the envelope to get pass this year quota before the weekend.

Off to read.

23 hours 16 minutes and 12 seconds

With only one week left in May, there’s still the gargantuan task of finishing the appointed 62 hours of reading.

That leaves me around 3 hours of reading per day, and the perfect recipe to close-out the 2,000 pages left to reach the total pages for the whole year.

I have a couple of books line-up, including the extension of my Star Wars marathon, which will continue with the premiere of Obi-Wan, and the first, chronologically speaking, story of the Jedi.

Off to read.

As always,scheming and reading

So, this is it, at least for the present year of reading, the final 15 days to get, what I started a day after my 40th birthday, done.

Knowing quite well how my mind start acting when this type of deadlines come knocking at my door, I get what can be describe as the restless jitters of do everything else but read. So I have device some tasks to help me get rid of my nervous energy, and get some reading in between.

First and foremost, there’s the tiny task of reaching the first 500,000 pages.

Seeing the bigger picture, I have 302 days left until my desired end date of the first half of this project, that’s March 20, 2023. In those terms, there’s a minimal of 262 daily pages from today up until March of next year, taking in account that my global average is 83 pages per day, there´s some stepping up to do. The thing that gives me some hope is that for the last three years, (Y-12), (Y-13), and (Y-14), my daily average has gone up exponentially, from 107 in (Y-13) to 179 in (Y-14).

The task is to finish my reading for the month of May, the goal were 62 hours , there’s still 29 hours left, and 9 days to get it done, this is a great complement to get my ass reading, and progressing in a much faster pace.

The third and final task, is a possible extension of my Star Wars Marathon. This, with the crazy idea to get thru every single novel in the Legends subset of the now non-canon stories that made me get into the Universe even more deeply.

I have read quite a bit of novels from the New Republic era, set 5 to 25 years after the Battle of Yavin, or the end of Episode IV: A New Hope. Now my focus is to fill in the blanks of the story, but get this, in chronological manner, if this isn’t the most OG shit you read today, don’t no what I’m doing wrong.

To start off, I´ll go back 25,793 years before the heroics of Luke Skywalker, to the world of the Pre-Republic Dawn of the Jedi: Into Void written by Tim Lebbon, and following, a bit more modern story, only 5,000 years before the Battle of Yavin, with collection of short stories by John Jackson Miller Lost Tribe of the Sith, in which he explores the misadventures of the Sith mining ship Omen.

Now that I have things mapped out, let´s go do them.

Off to read.

Numbers: May 23,2022

It has been three weeks since my last Magic Monday report, has I enter the last leg of this year’s journey, there´s only 15 days left, there´s a strong tendency from my part to get over focus on the reading tasks left, and not enough on writing how things are progressing. But in its imperative for me to share how things are shaping up for the season finally.

My challenge of 52 books in 52 weeks it’s in the bag , starting week number 50 , my total is 54 books, this pass few weeks where dedicated to dwell on a galaxy, far, far away, from which, I read three books from the non-canon Legends section of the Universe, this part of the Star Wars Universe is one that I intended go get thru in it’s entirety, but more on that later.

The fore mentioned book where: Legacy of the Force: Betrayal, Rebel Force: Target, and The Life and Legend of Obi-Wan Kenobi, which I just started this morning.

Now let’s talk about MY NUMBERS, the current total is 62,686 of the 64,952 pages of this year’s goal, a pretty decent progress of 4,584 registered pages since the last update. The next 15 days of reading are solely focus on the 2,266 pages to reach the ultimate goal.

Judging from my end of the year projection of total pages ,currently 65,365 pages, the finally tally of pages will be more that satisfactory, there can be potentially some surplus pages to help out the upcoming years. My reading schedule, is as always playing with my emotions, now it stands, I believe for the first time since the very beginning of the year, 1 day ahead of schedule, and it couldn’t come in better timing for the final push.

The mantra, one step at a time, one page at a time, is paying off some dividends.

I start the reading week with a deficit of 928 pages, and a total 2,174 pages to get back to balance. I achieved this week quota plus 26 pages. The total for the month of May is 4074 pages, which represent around 74% of the projected total, leaving only 1,444 pages for the month, inching ever closer to a step those reading badges.

For the first 500,000 pages, I have only 86,737 pages left, and the new date of reaching that goal is May 13, 2025, that’s 43 days earlier than the last projection, my sights are still pointed at March 20, 2023 as the desired date to reach the first half of the challenge, 302 intense days of reading. The gap narrowed from 787 to 744 days behind schedule.

The second part of the journey, or the other 500,000 pages, my weekly pages needed are now 1,550 with a daily average of 221 pages, 5 pages less than the last projection.

Now for the golden prize of 1,000,000 pages, to my delight, the projections puts it 7,062 days away, a 105 day gain from the last projection, making the end date is September 22, 2041 that’s 3,762 days after the original plan, 84 days less that the last projection. I have to keep reminding myself that my goal is to reach my goal by my 50th birthday, right now, I would be 60 years 3 months, and 17 days old.

To summary the numbers from my Journey Back.

  • Pages to reach 500,000: 86,737 pages
  • Days to reach 1,000,000: 7,062 days
  • Days behind schedule: 3,762 days

Now back to work on the final goal of the year.

Mid month report: May 2022

Things slow down a bit, judging by my performance on April, but I’m really determined to close-out the year full steam ahead.

So things go like this:

  • My total for May is 2,368 pages, about 43% of the total projected.
  • There are still 1,244 pages to get back to balance for the whole year
  • The goal for this Sunday’s reading is to get that last number into triple digits.
  • Consequently, the goal for next week, number 48 of the year, is to eliminate the surplus of pages completely

My intention is that for (W-49) to (W-52), I can sum up pages to lighten the load for the upcoming years.

Very ambitious days ahead of me.

On the verge

Right about now it’s a good time to take a deep breath, and remind myself to not let up the pace, the goal is within reach.

With only 24 days left on my reading, there’s some 4,312 pesky page between me and the very ambitious goal of 64,492 pages.

Consequently this is the first, hopefully not the last, year that my total has surpassed not only the 50,000-page mark, but also the next level, with a total of 60,630 pages, and more on the way.

To keep things rolling, I’m still deeply immersed in my Star Wars readathon, slated to finish on May 25. I suspect that there’s going to be a continuation of this marathon to start off year number 15.

I’ll look into acquiring the next volumes of the now non-canon series Legacy of the Force, from which, I’m reading the first entry, Betrayal.

Now to burn the midnight oil.

Off to read.

Numbers: May 2, 2022

Welcome to another Magic Monday, the first of May, and now I have officially enter the last leg of this year’s journey. Let’s see how things are shaping up for the season finally.

My challenge of 52 books in 52 weeks challenge is still way ahead of schedule, starting week number 46 , although I’m still working on what will be book number 52, The Chronicles of the Black Company penned by Glen Cook, this should be done between today and tomorrow, this to make way for the start of my yearly Star Wars marathon.

Kicking off, as tradition dictates, on May 4. To start off the festivities, I’ll be reading Charles Soules’ Light of the Jedi, the first novel of the highly anticipated exploration of the High Republic era.

The neglected one short story a day challenge will be reignited, putting aside the famous tales of the famous Barbarian, to make way for some tales in a galaxy far, far away.

Now let’s talk about MY NUMBERS, the current total is 58,102 of the 64,952 pages of this year’s goal, a underwhelming progress of 754 registered pages since the last update. The next step, and the whole focus for the remaining 35 days of reading, is to surpass my 64,000 plus pages goal. 6,840 pages stand in my way to success.

The end of the year projection of total pages had a bit of a set back ,currently is at 64,479 pages, 504 pages less than the last update. My reading schedule, is as always playing with my emotions, now it stands 4 days behind, nothing catastrophic, but I really thought that this week will be the one to put me back on schedule .

I keep on sticking to my mantra, one step at a time, one page at a time.

I start week 46 with a deficit of 885 pages, and a total 2,131 pages to get back to balance, I came short of this week quota by 225. The total for the month of April was 7,909 pages, which represent around 148% of the projected total, leaving only 197 pages, plus the 5,518 of the quota for the month of May, to get back on track for the entire year, inching ever closer to a step those reading badges.

For the first 500,000 pages, I have only 91,321 pages left, and the new date of reaching that goal is May 13, 2025, that’s 2 days earlier than the last projection, my sights are still pointed at March 20, 2023 as the desired date to reach the first half of the challenge, 323 intense days of reading. The gap narrowed from 789 to 787 days behind schedule.

The second part of the journey, or the other 500,000 pages, my weekly pages needed are now 1,579 with a daily average of 226 pages, this stayed pretty much the same as the last projection.

Now for the golden prize of 1,000,000 pages, to my delight, the projections puts it 7,167 days away, a 12 day gain from the last projection, making the end date is December 15, 2041, that’s 3,846 days after the original plan, 5 days less that the last projection. For the busy week I had, this small push forward is quite surprising. I have to keep reminding myself that my goal is to reach my goal by my 50th birthday, right now, I would be 60 years 6 months, and 10 days old.

To summary the numbers from my Journey Back.

  • Pages to reach 500,000: 91,321 pages
  • Days to reach 1,000,000: 7,157 days
  • Days behind schedule: 3,846 days

Now back to work on the final goal of the year.
