(Y-11) 99 days

My morning reading was pretty good.

I read the fifth volume of Dragonero and compendium of Editorial Chipotle infamous canine, Maligno, it is pretty funny and irreverent, you can check it out at their website.

Right now I am about to start reading the second volume of the new Kick-ass series, this time written by one of my favorite authors, Steve Niles, of 30 days of Night fame.

All of this while I pack for my next adventure.

Off to read.

(Y-11) making some headway, vacation edition, part one.

As the second day of my vacation comes to a close, I sit here, well lay here will be more accurate, with a great feeling of satisfaction.

Yesterday, I finished the third volume of the Neverwinter Saga, Charon’s Claw, this after almost two months of reading.

I will promptly start reading the fourth and final volume of this intriguing saga, The Last Threshold.

Also, I finished the first volume of the new Kick-Ass run, again with the legendary team of Mark Millar and John Romita Jr., every bit as fun as the original series.

Tomorrow, I’ll post some numbers of my latest efforts on closing the gap on my reading and a special treat from a quick museum visit from today.

For now is back to reading for the rest of the day, because tomorrow is an early morning gardening day.

Happy Readings!!!

(Y-11) Just barely (Day 25 of 31)

I hope everybody is enjoying their holiday and are eating profusely.

Yesterday I enjoyed a day full of food and booze, the stars of the evening where a pair of red wine bottles that I bought more than 9 months ago in Ruidoso, New Mexico, courtesy of Noisy Water Winery & Cellars.

The one called “Dirty” was particularly exceptional.

But of course, before all the celebration began, I did had time to read for a while.

On that note, my total for yesterday was 149, just barely over the minimum daily average.

I finished reading the first volume of The Eternal Warrior, which has been my favorite so far of all the Valiant Comics Universe I have read.

Here you can see an alternate cover from the magnificent artist Clayton Crain, he also did some of the interior art, just little snippets, but quite remarkable.

Also, I read some micro-tales of World of Warcraft: Legion, four issues of ten pages each, this is an introduction or mood setter to the sixth expansion of this massive game. Although I am not a player, I do enjoy the stories, epic fantasy galore.

Thanks to all of this my total reading for this year has gone up to 7,404 pages.

Just 2,596 to reach 10,000.

On the book front, not a great day, currently on page 80 and just one week to get through it, I never back down from a challenge.

In the morning I woke up to a pleasant surprise in the form of a Christmas present from my wife and non-other than my two vices, comics, and coffee.

I hope you keep on enjoying the rest of the Holidays, right now I’ll get ready to go and enjoy the new Spider-Man animated movie with my wife and kids.

Happy Readings!!!

(Y-11) Still in the flow (Day 5 of 31)

Yesterday was another great of reading, and once again, I hit the page goal.

This time the total was 173 pages, the pace is going up.

This is a great way to start my vacation period with a bang, and hopefully, I will meet my goal by the time January rolls around.

Although I am a little behind schedule, currently I have 3,287 pages, and according to my calculations I should have approximately 7,738 pages at this point of the year, this is of course to reach my coveted 53,000 pages of total reading for this year.

That puts me 32 days behind schedule.

But have no fear for this vacation period will help me shorten the distance.

Now to talk about happier things, yesterday I finished the third volume of Mark Millar’s seminal comic book series, Kick-Ass, what a beautiful, hyperviolent thrill ride this series has been.

If your only frame of reference is the movie, let me tell you, that is the light version of the story, so, go out and buy whatever you can get your hands on of this great series and get ready for a ride not fit for the weak hearted.

Also, I had a great reading session this morning of the first book of The Malazan Book of the Fallen series, The Garden of Moon, in which I currently stand on page 330 of 627. I plan to read this and the second book of the series, Deadhouse Gates, before the end of the year.

And finally, I am lining up some reading material for the weekend, this of course with the goal of gaining some lost ground and getting ever closer to achieving what I set out to do this year, in my plans of reading for the upcoming weekend I have enlisted the help of a triple threat of fun.

The latest installments, well at least recently published in Spanish, of the Legend of Zelda manga series, The Minish Cap/Phantom Hourglass, and Four Swords, volumes 4 and 5, respectively.

And to sickly top things off, the first volume of compiled debauchery in its purest form, I am of course talking about the masterpiece written by Garth Ennis and illustrated by the great Steve Dillon.

This is one of the works of the middle of the ’90s that came and reshaped what the comic book medium could be and what time of stories could be told, not just your run of the mill superheroes stories but something with more depth and to explore human nature from a different perspective.

I should enjoy re-reading this fantastic series.

The few days ahead seem to be destined to be quite thrilling, I shall inform you, tomorrow of course, of my latest shenanigans.

But for today it is back to the salt mines for me.

Happy Readings!!!

(Y-11) Go with the flow (day 4 of 31)

As the fourth day of December nears its end, I am glad to announce that my streak is alive and well.

As mentioned in the last post this December, I plan to read at least the minimum average for the day of reading, that is 146 pages to read 53,000 total pages for this year of reading.

So far the days have fare like this:

  • December 1st– 146 pages
  • December 2nd-146 pages
  • December 3rd-158 pages

And so far the 4th day has had a pretty decent session of The Gardens of the Moon, and it will continue with Kick-Ass Volume 3 and Doctor Strange Epic Collection: Afterlife, in which, I just enter a story-arc written by one of my favorite authors, Warren Ellis.
